It's Your Body Babe-y

Although I have zero desire to add to the useless Kardashian imagery and information that could fill 10 black holes at this point, I have to say that this is one image I could not ignore - because who can ignore a beautiful, proud, mother-to-be.

Kourtney Kardashian's recent photo shoot with Brian Bowen Smith, in my opinion captured the essence of a woman truly comfortable in her own skin; proud to be a woman and (lord knows) a mother. Kourtney, who I have fondly referred to as "the pregnant one" for many years, is on her third (and probably not her last) pregnancy. Although this is not her first nude maternity shoot this one is certainly more public than the past shoots. (Click! For more of the pics)

Why? Maybe an attempt to keep up with Kim and break the internet? Well according to an interview Koutney did with Dujour.com , for her,  there's more to it than that.
"To me, nudity is not something to be ashamed of. I’m not embarrassed of my body. I’m at my best when I’m pregnant. It’s such an amazing feeling, the transformation that your body goes through. There’s something about that that’s so empowering and beautiful and I just really embrace it."
Though I didn't get the impression that the Kardashian's were ashamed of being nude, I did however, especially after Kim's Paper Mag photo shoot (check it out here) get the impression that their best light was under that of the glitz and glamour of the Hollywood lifestyle and persona. Which of course is on a large level true, otherwise they wouldn't be who they are OR famous at all. Nevertheless I feel that here Kourtney is taking showing a side we rarely see in the media, being comfortable in her natural state.

Yes, of course I'm sure the pictures are photoshopped, but when I see these photographs I feel that I am looking at a woman who has found purpose in who she is. When asked how she hoped people would respond to the photographs she replied,
"I don’t know. It’s what a woman’s body is made to do, so I hope it’s maybe seen as something that’s artistic. This was something that initially I did for myself just to capture the moment in my life, but these photos are beautiful and I’m happy to share them. And I like how raw they are. It’s my body: I’m not trying to impress anybody or be something that I’m not. But in general, I don’t really care that much about what people think. It doesn’t rule my world. I did this because I wanted to and it made me happy."
I found it slightly entertaining how Kourtney explains how those present during the shoot were responding to her being nude. In awe of how comfortable she actually was. I wonder if it was just because she was naked or because she was pregnant and naked? Pregnancy is just another part of life, yet often times pregnancy is seen as 'unattractive'. Of course it is in large part due to the common aura of  the pregnant woman. The "I'm fat and unattractive" monkey they carry around on their now aching back.

For this reason I found it refreshing that an image of a nude woman in the current pop culture was displayed as a legitimate sign of empowerment. Particularly now when most nude photo shoots from celebrities are  'Look at me! I'm hot and naked!'

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with a woman loving her body, by all means, but sometimes I want a little purpose and reality with my naked ladies, ya dig?

Kourtney - DD score. Definetly!
